What is Melasma?
Melasma is a skin condition in which gray-brown patches of discoloration appear on the forehead, nose, chin, other areas of the face, or on the forearms. Numerous individuals develop melasma at some point in their lives, and the condition is typically prevalent among women with darker skin tones. It can be triggered by UV exposure or hormone fluctuations, such as those experienced during pregnancy and menopause. Kathy Cooper performs melasma treatments at Ohana Aesthetics and Wellness with Harmony XL PRO laser technology from Alma. This innovative treatment uses gentle light energy to help diminish the visibility of melasma patches. Set up a consultation at our Orem, UT practice to learn whether laser treatment for melasma is right for your skin.
"I, Peggy Larson, want to express my deepest gratitude to you and your staff for all of the help I have received from your office the last year. As you know, I deal with chronic neck and back pain and other physical problems. I was concerned about finding a new doctor when my previous chiropractor retired. I worried about finding someone who could really help me. Dr. Joe has helped me so very much! So many times I have been in severe pain and been able to get relief from my doctor visits. More than that, I am grateful for the compassion and care that has been shown to me. Jeri has been especially kind and has become a trusted friend through my visits. I don't know what I would do without you. I am so appreciative of the help and relief I have been able to receive. Thank you again! Peggy Larson"- L.L. / Google / Sep 25, 2021
"As always I walked in with a problem and left feeling 100% better! I can't say enough good things about the doctors and staff here!"- A.S. / Google / Sep 01, 2021
"I’ve got pretty thick hair on my beard, back of the neck, as well as my back. After a few treatments I’ve noticed a huge difference. I targeted just under my beard, so all the nasty stragglers I shave daily to keep my beard line looking good. Normally after shaving I get razor burn no matter how I tackle it. The first treatment I noticed I wouldn’t get razor burn anymore, and my hair already started coming in thinner. I also had an odd toenail fungus thing and I’ve had 4 treatments on it and it’s already starting to dissipate! I’ve had it for years and it’s nice to see it finally start going away. Would totally recommend for any guy thinking about removing hair in areas that are a hassle to upkeep!"- A.M. / Office Visit / Aug 18, 2021
"AMAZING! I've only had 2 laser hair removal treatments done on my legs and under arms and I've already noticed a huge difference. My skin stays smooth longer, the hair is softer, my ingrown hairs are much less(almost gone), there are less red marks after shaving, and I don't have to shave as often and that is only after 2 treatments. Also Sage is amazing. She explains every thing she's about to do so I understand what's going on. She's super professional and made sure I was comfortable the whole time. I'm excited to try some of the other treatments."- C.A. / Office Visit / Aug 11, 2021
"I’ve loved my treatments and experience at Ohana. I have done four sessions of laser hair removal on my full legs and underarms. I’ve noticed a huge difference and rarely have to shave anymore. Their master Aesthetician Sage, is incredibly nice and professional. She made the experience comfortable and stress free. She was willing to answer any questions I had and explained the process as she went so I never felt uncomfortable or surprised . Would 100% recommend coming here."- O.M. / Office Visit / Jul 29, 2021
What causes melasma?
Melasma is most commonly caused by hormone changes, including those that are experienced with pregnancy, birth control, menopause, and even high levels of stress. Genetics can make some people more predisposed to melasma. UV exposure can also be a significant contributor to the condition.
How does laser treatment for melasma work?
The Harmony XL PRO laser is a handheld energy device that targets discolored patches of skin with focused light. The light will effectively help to break down excess pigmentation, allowing the pigment to be reabsorbed into the body. Though areas of skin targeted by the laser could take on a darker appearance initially, they will likely diminish after a week or so.
Does melasma come back after laser treatment?
Though laser therapy can work to reduce the appearance of melasma, new melasma spots can appear over time, presenting as gray, brown, or tan patches. A number of treatment sessions might be scheduled to help maintain your results.
What is the cost of laser melasma treatment?
At Ohana Aesthetics and Wellness, the cost of melasma treatment is determined at your initial consultation. Our staff will talk with you about your goals and will create a treatment program based on your needs. We offer a variety of payment options and will work with you to find the most convenient payment method here at our Orem, UT location.
